The House Always Wins: A Timeless Kitchen Designed for Family Life

At Britt Design Studio, we believe the heart of every home should be as beautiful as it is livable. In our latest project, The House Always Wins, we took a down-to-the-studs renovation and turned it into a family’s dream space — one where life happens in the everyday moments, but every detail feels intentional.
From the start, we knew the kitchen, breakfast nook, and butler’s pantry needed to do more than just function — they needed to tell a story. The story of a family that loves to gather, entertain, and make memories in a home they plan to enjoy for decades to come.
This unveiling marks more than just a kitchen reveal—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the little luxuries that turn a house into a home.

A Kitchen Built for Real Life
This isn’t your average kitchen — it’s a carefully choreographed space with multiple cooking zones so everyone can join in without stepping on toes. A coffee & grappa bar keeps morning routines and evening rituals in their own dedicated corner, while dual refrigerators make family gatherings and holidays a breeze.
The oak cabinetry brings a warm, organic texture to the space, balancing the clean lines with natural beauty. Anchoring it all is the custom oval cerused oak breakfast table — the perfect place for kids to finish homework while dinner simmers or friends linger over weekend brunch.

Coffee, Your Way
Tucked seamlessly into the kitchen’s layout, the coffee station is a morning (and afternoon) game-changer. Featuring a Miele built-in coffee machine (pro tip: splurge for the one with the water line, you'll thank me later), it delivers café-quality lattes, cappuccinos, and espressos at the touch of a button. Open shelving below keeps mugs within easy reach and houses all the fixings — from sugar and syrups to that favorite cinnamon shaker. It’s a daily ritual, elevated.

The Butler’s Pantry That Stole the Show
If the kitchen is the heart of the home, the butler’s pantry is its secret weapon. Featuring ebony cerused oak cabinetry, this space is moody, dramatic, and made for mixing. Floating brass-clad shelves add a warm, reflective glow and showcase a curated collection of spirits, barware, and cocktail tools.

We incorporated a bold and eye-catching graphic backsplash tile from Ann Sacks (thank you, Kelly Wearstler) for a nod to our client's playful side. When thinking of these shelves, in addition to the brass banding, we wanted to make the entire structure special so we added a coined detail to the support brackets.
Every element was designed for a resident mixologist, making it equally capable of handling a holiday party or a quiet nightcap.

When a Home Fits Like a Glove
Taking this project down to the studs gave us the freedom to not just improve the aesthetics, but to completely reimagine the functionality of these connected spaces. Every zone, surface, and storage solution was designed to support the way our clients live, entertain, and enjoy their home. It’s proof that the right design solves problems before you even notice them — no more storage battles, no more traffic jams around the island, and plenty of space for gathering without chaos.
This unveiling marks more than just a kitchen reveal—it’s a celebration of craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the little luxuries that turn a house into a home.
